breast augmentation

As one of the most popular plastic surgeries, breast augmentation, or breast enlargement, effectively changes the shape of your breasts. Breast augmentation recreates fullness and increases the size of the breasts through surgical intervention.

Dr. Kim will perform a breast exam and discuss with you your desired outcome. Great care is taken to select the implant size and type that suits you. If you are not sure if you want saline or silicone implants, Dr. Kim will review the pros and cons of each implant type. Depending on your desired outcome, this surgery may be paired with other operations. Any concerns or questions regarding the surgery will be addressed during your consultation.

Choosing to undergo surgery is a big decision. Dr. Kim will help you make the best-informed decision that meets your needs.

During your consultation appointment, you will have the opportunity to “try on” different implants to find your perfect fit. Please bring a sports bra and a few tight-fitting clothes. A second pair of eyes is also recommended.

Breast implants can last for many years (decades). The FDA recommends a screening MRI five to six years after your initial surgery, then every two to three years to monitor the implants’ integrity. Please refer to the FDA’s website for guidelines on breast implants’ durability and follow-up.

Though rare, your body may develop a reaction to your implants. This is called breast implant illness (BII). As of now, there are no tests to confirm this diagnosis. Some find relief when their implants are removed. Dr. Kim will review breast implant illness during your consult. For more information on breast implants, please see the FDA’s website.

Implants should not affect your day-to-day life. Selecting an implant that is too large may have long-term consequences requiring revision or removal. During your consult, Dr. Kim takes care to make sure you select an implant that meets your needs.

Though rare, nerve injuries can occur with any surgeries that are performed, including breast surgeries.
